Cobalt's can run 12's with way less mods than you, shame they didn't.

my best friend was running 12.8s in his 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo, 3 years ago.
his only mods were a catless downpipe and BYT tune, he dyno'd 298whp/360wtq. stock Pirelli tires & 93 pump gas.

You know, some of you state that both the Cobalt / HHR shoud be the same.

And you are right, both have intake tube restrictions.

K&N removed it with their air intake system using the factory
HHR SS airbox / fresh air setup.
ZZP also removed it, with their $80 intake tube for the Cobalt,
using the stock factory airbox /fresh air setup.

It's probaby their best seller, as it works well.
search ZZP air tube over on Cobaltss.net.
You'll be amazed.

I'm thinking that ZZP saw a ready market over here, by using
the Cobalt intake tube that removes the restriction, & extending,
it out with metal, to cheaply create, a HHR SS hot air system.

Just like the HHR SS, I didn't buy it for the looks/sound.
I was hoping that for the 2009 model year, that GM would
put the automatic in the Cobalt SS. If they did, I would have got
the Cobalt SS.

I didn't buy it for looks and sound. I bought it for gains. Unfortunately, as has been discussed many times over in this thread, I am going to need to be tuned for that. I'm just looking at the silver lining while I wait for said tune.

Man I can't believe some of the crap, I'm hearing on here, about this air intake disscusion.
Seems to me, this could be a fairly simple solution for the ZZP intake . If you run a ZZP intake, get a frigging tune, bottom line. All this other chatter, about heat shield, no heat shield, hot air intake,no hot air intake, is so much B.S., and is only confusing the issue.
Motor mouth[2005HHRAuto] keeps harping about his K&N intake that has a low restriction intake tube. That is outright Horse s---. Any gains he thinks he got over other intakes, strictly at the intake tube, is mininal at best. Any intake that is mounted in the engine compartment, is going to get some hot air, no matter where it's mounted, and at idle, will get a lot of heat soak.
Run whatever you choose, but I went with the KISS principal.."Keep it simple stupid". I have a very functional, large hood scoop, that feeds outside cooler air, directly on top of very large K&N/AEM dry filter. Serves two purposes. One, it feeds the intake cooler air and lots of it, and the vast amount of air, forced into the engine compartment, forces a lot of the hot air out, of the engine bay.
Speaking of "Hot Air". 2005HHRAuto: when are you going to post some pictures of your HHR? I have aked repeatedly, but you seem to be ignoring my request, for pics. of your car, a engine compartment shot, maybe a dyno sheet[ to verify that "400flbs" of torque]. Produce, or stop the B.S. "Moon"
P.S. Also, I posted this mod in 2009[and got all kinds of flack over it]. If you run a underhood air intake ,of any kind, and you want to get a little more outside air into the engine compartment, trim off the top of the plastic shield that covers the radiator. It's blocking air from entering engine compartment.

Best post yet

Couple things clear up
LNF DOES have a learn down feature all tuners know this and each of them know it can NOT be turned off it can be set to read an infinity table so doesn't matter

Kn drop in SHOULD require maf table adjustment, it's claimed to flow 78% more air than standard filter. A maf setup requires table adjustments every 12 to 16% on average. Minute but still if you going to tune do it all right?

Zzp hasn't done dyno for good reason the clutch is on way out. Those guys hide nothing and plan to have it ready for the meet and dyno it

Heat soak is going effect an intake without a heat shield closely to same as one without......believe it or not the factory air even on top of motor will most likely show lowest sign of heat soak......mainly due to materials
Air box plastic, heatshield metal...duh here folks

I don't think some understand heat soak, unless someone is building a time attack HHR..... For drag strip or autoX guys...
For heat soak cure
ICE , FANS, AND TURN YOUR HEATER OWN BETWEEN RUNS!!! Problem solved geez
