There is a link to FREE service manuals in my sig.
I have never seen a 2.0 sprocket but, the2.2/2.4 does not have springs.

Here is a pdf of the procedure:

Took you up on your free shop manual, and it was EXACTLY what I needed.
Unlike oldblue I didnt cut my front timing cover gasket meaning I removed the engine mount! UGH! I had forgot which bolts went where ( 3 of them , 1 short )

Thank you so much!

I have replaced the timing and balance chains at least 4-5 times on LNF engines (HHR SS) and have never seen the sprocket with springs on any of them.

I realized what caused mine to be out of time as pictured earlier… On the teardown , I used an impact gun to break the crank nut. Must’ve shifted the sprocket somehow. Just got done tightening it the right way, and oh my. I used all of my strength.

it has a GM part number that yields a service site with the part but it’s discontinued. I guess you could find them in a junk yard. But it would have to be the SS. All the kits have the wrong sprocket.

ZZP recommends against changing Ecotec sprockets, say they never (or maybe rarely) see them in need of replacement.

And that crankshaft balance chain sprocket in the LNF engine is not the same as the L61 or LE5 or LE9.
as we’ve discussed it is obsolete and nobody sells a replacement.

Happy to report that my little SS is back up and running! Fired right up. Only complaint is a slight rumble, sometimes, after a short rev, it stutters a little bit. threw several codes earlier, timing advanced, etc. but one of the VVT solenoid’s wasn’t fully plugged in.

Congrats on the fix.

Could you clarify the above statement? I don’t understand. And, can you do this job without removing the engine mount?

Remember to put SS in your profile. It’s important!

I posted years ago about cutting the timing chain cover gasket. Eliminating the need to remove the engine mount bracket bolted to the engine, it is not that much to remove the 3 bolts
