Related question: To those of you who have changed your own oil: Does the 2.0 LNF have a magnetic tip drain plug? I was thinking of buying one to have for my 1st oil change, but would feel stupid if it already has one.

Did mine about two weeks ago. I used my large floor jack under the front sub frame member and there was room for one small stand set there just in case.

The whole deal took 10 min. I also bought a 5qt jug from Wally World. I am using a Purolator Pure One filter (looks a bit different then the one that came out and the media is blue and very different from the stock one).

Neat deal being able to inspect the filter w/o cutting the can off. New engine it's always a good idea to look the filter over. Nothing there what so ever.

Did my first a few months ago. If I remember, 33mm socket was what we used. My bro-in-law put her on the lift at his shop so it was easy. My only thing is next change I'll need to rotate the tires which I don't want to do myself. Since 5 quarts of Mobile one at Pep boys was $45 does anyone know what the dealer or other shops charge for an oil change and rotation? I may go this route next time.

What's the point? What would be the source of any ferrous metals floating around in your oil?

The dealer quoted me $89 for a Mobil 1 oil change. Their standard oil change was $26. I did my own oil change last week: Wal-Mart Mobil 1 $26 + K&N oil filter less than 1/2 hour. The HHR is tall enough off the ground for me to put a socket on the drain plug without any jacking.

It's a 32mm shorty socket

Uh... an engine has metal to metal contact. That is what "OIL" is for... There will always be some metal in the oil. You may not be able to see it, but it is there. It is best to have it stuck to the drain plug magnetic rather than flowing around in the engine...

Just finished an oil change (10 minutes including tool wipedown)... it's not magnetic.
