No idea what the sensor is calibrated to, GM did advise that they will provide the information from the airbag module after the inspection, meaning, why did it go off.

If it shows that I exceeded a 30 degree angle, I will need to respond with bull-crap and will offer to demonstrate the incident.

30 degrees is the angle of impact on the nose to set of the air back not roll over.

The sensor the roll over detects roll rate. This is what is to keep it off on hard driving. Here is a tech artical that explains it in great detail.

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL LIAR!

This is GM BC! If this was the case we would see autocross bloopers on Youtube of HHR's blowing bags at every corner.

Here is a question? Were your tires squealing when cornering? I've seen an HHR do a hand-brake 180 with no problems on wet pavement, not my HHR of course, but i've seen it done.

Also, be careful about what your write, as this is all public record for GM to use against you, but alas a lawyer would tell you that, if you retained one.

anyone else hear a broken record?

Come on now Moon, not all of us lawyers are "professional liars". Just remember that for every lyin', cheatin', low down, dirty, mealy mouthed, inbred idiot ever issued a law license...you have 50 honest hard working people looking out for the well being of their clients and the public at large.

Sorry, I am guilty of generalizing. Apologies. I made the "is that a PT Cruizer" kind of statement.

Hire a Lawyer!

Moon is directly CORRECT!!! Hire a lawyer. GM is not in the biz to buy back cars REGARDLESS how wrong they are. While you are talking to them, you are just a "little guy".

My prediction... they will play nice and act like they are helping you. Then instead of buying the car back, they will offer to fix up or repair. If I'm wrong there, they may offer to replace the car with a new one.

But if my first part is correct, you would have wasted "X" amount of time "talking" to GM. Then you have to lawyer up anyway, and wait again.

I've been quiet

but I would hire a lawyer and be prepared for a long ordeal either way. I still miss the capabilities of the SS but I don't miss GM not standing behind their products.

Has anyone ever consulted a lawyer and had them tell you that you don't have a case? I find it very disturbing that a mechanic has to give you an estimate but lawyers aren't held to any type of accountability.

How many men have had lawyers tell them they had a chance to get custody of their children when the lawyer knows full well that a father only gets custody if the mother doesn't want it and the father will end up paying for his lawyer, her lawyer and the children's lawyer. Lawyers can charge you whatever they want and the only oversight they have is by other lawyers

Don't you have bumper to bumper warranty? If GM can't get this done, they should supply a rental car until they figure it out. Your insurance should be handling this for you. Let their lawyers fight it out.

Latest update....

6/29
GM called to advise that they will not cover the repairs or replace the car. The rollover system performed as intended and the cause, per GM engineering, was agressive driving. Call you insurance or pay for it on your own.

7/1
I requested a copy of the "black box" download data this morning. They will provide the data in writing. I also asked for specifics on what happened. They would not provide any information in writing, but would advise verbally. Per GM Engineering, the roll sensor triggered the airbag as the roll angle of the vehicle exceeded the threshold set by the system. The threshold level is considered proprietary and cannot be disclosed.

So there it is, finished.

1 and a half months of waiting, just to hear that the vehicle is performing as designed Also note, GM advised that the airbag fault that I had on April 28th had nothing to do with the deployment.

I have filed a complaint with NHTSA which I expect will not do anything.

I do feel that the rollover airbag system was not designed correctly for the HHR SS, it might be acceptable for a car that has lower cornering limits such as a standard HHR, but I do not feel that GM thoroughly designed the system to function with the HHR SS.
