HHR SS Rear lower bump stop mount removal

How do you remove the lower bump stop , the metal piece that the plastic and rubber sits on top of. This also keep the coil spring centered ?

First. Why do you want to do this?

OK. You have to remove the rear spring, then remove the bump stop from the spring. Yes, it does keep it centered. There is a knob like protrusion on the framing that the spring/bump stop slips over.

This is the only pic I have that shows the bump stop.

Bump Stop

I need to remove the lower metal knob that keeps the spring centered. I have custom Air Bags and under the knob is a hole i need also to run a bolt through. It looks like it is pressed in as a separate part. Before i hack it or torch it off i think there is an easier way with a hammer or puller

Ooops. Sorry about that. I misunderstood the question. When you said bump stop, I was thinking the actually rubber part itself.
As far as the metal lower knob, I'm not sure but I think it's all one welded piece that is part of the axle assembly.

You probably need some advice from someone who has installed air bags on a HHR. I haven't done those before.
I did find another picture that kind of shows how it's a welded area. Not exactly sure about the lower knob but I assume it's pressed formed into that piece. I would think you'll have to cut it out.

Wouldn't a bag just mold itself around the bump? You'd think the Mfg. would have some advice, nothing special about the HHR spring mount.
