$90

That's BS. It is extremely easy to get at the oil filter. Easier than any car I've ever had. A 1-1/4" shallow socket and an extention and she comes right out with no oil running down your arm while lying on your back in crud. Also a 5 quart bucket of Mobil 1 is $23 at W-mart.

Question Your not kidding about it being BS!

I was going to have the dealership change out the oil in the SS at 500mi but they wanted $76.00 to do it I told them to forget it! Went to Costco bought 6 pack ($32.00) and went to Murrays bought K&N filter for the change. Changed the oil at 1500 with the dealership changing it. I'm not lazy or incapable but I have known people have changed their oil regularly and had some engine issue's - the first thing the dealership asks for is proof of the oil changes being done...This is why I just let them change it; so the proof is always there.
Now, the dealership did say the SS take 5 3/4 quarts because of the turbo.

This car uses Mobil 1 Synthetic oil.........Why in the world would you want to change an Oil that will go at least 10,000 miles at 1500 miles???

As soon as we get an SS at my dealer, I will verify the oil filter thing.
Someone's lining his pockets... takes 10 minutes end to end, including wiping the oil off the tools and putting away to jack.

No, on the KN Oil Filter! it is fine. It is the KN Air Filter that will cause problems with the MAF, Mass Air Sensor! I don't believe you have one of these anyway

MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor. It tells the computer how much air is coming into the engine.

And, if you take this guy's research as true, here's some info on the K&N oil filter (BTW, I just did my first oil change and used the K&N as that was the only one the store had in stock for the Ecotec)...
