Thanks for the welcome. Great website. As for the app, it’s Iphone/Ipad only from what I see. Highly recommended app from my investigating. I use it on an I phone. I have an 6plus that will eventually end up in the car just for this. Just need to find a good way to mount it.
I use both Torque Lite and the dedicated app that came with my OBDLink LX on a Samsung S4, Android, and ancient by phone standards, but I don’t worry about security because I don’t use it far anything else and don’t even really need to connect it to the internet, and has a removable memory chip.
Old Android phones are knocking around draws everywhere. Ask your friends and you’ll probably have several choices for free. Any old Android tablet with bluetooth should work too.
But OBDLink says their apps support iOS, Android, and Windows.
I don’t know if really old Bluetooth would cause noticeable latency or trouble related to that, so I would start with the latest Bluetooth standard I could get free/cheap. OBDLink says their LX and MX+ use a Class 1.5, Bluetooth 3.0 module.
The OBDLink products aren’t cheap but they provide free firmware updates and have a great reputation. If I were doing it all over again I’d go for the OBDLink MX+, which supports MS-CAN and SW-CAN.
OBDLink provides a free basic app (which I use) but also offers $ upgrades.
Probably better deals out there that will suffice, but I did a bit of reading before I bought.
