If the RCDLR has no power for sometime ,it will lose programing and needs to be reflash by dealer, tires will show all ---- and no waning light and key fobs will not work even after programing them.

 

That is for 2008 models only. The reflash is updated firmware.

 

My key fob is only working some of the time. When I can't get the door to unlock I have to use the key and when I open the door the alarm goes off. I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on to get the alarm to stop. My car is a 2008 2 LT. I think the key fob is going bad, does it sound like I'm right? Apparently you have to bring a new key fob to the dealer to get it programed and they are going to charge $100 to do that. Is this true? Is it not possible to program a new one myself?

you MUST GO TO A DEALER OR A GOOD LOCKSMITH to have it programed. It cannot be done without a scanner.

No, I don't think you are right. A broken fob would not work at all.
Maybe, the battery has died or the battery cage has come unsoldered to the circuit board.
A common problem is the contacts on the keypad wear out or get too dirty. You can get a new fob case with keypad for a couple dollars on ebay. Or you can try the "bit of metal foil on the contacts" trick.
You can buy a Dorman fob with a programmer module from ebay/amazon/local auto parts. The fob that comes with the kit may not work properly, I recommend that you buy a Genuine GM fob to go with it.

Your intermittent problems sounds like worn dirty buttons or a failed solder joint on the fob's battery clip. You can read more at the multiple discussions on this in this forum. The battery clip can be re-soldered. The button contacts on the green board can be tested by jumpering with a penny. If the green board is good you can put it in a new case with nice fresh button contact pads, dirt cheap on Amabay, no programming required.

Beware, the battery is easily installed upside down. If so it is shorted and dead almost instantly. And hot. Ask me how I know.
