Special tool for holding the cam sprockets??

I tried a search for the info I was looking for but wasn't successful. I'm going to remove the head on the LNF I just got and one of the manuals I was looking at made mention of some sort of tool/fixture to hold the sprockets while the sprocket bolts are removed.

Anyone done it this way or did you just hold the cam with a wrench and loosen the bolt?

I used a nice wide flat prybar between the cams. Couple of light taps and you're good to go. Any time I've needed a special tool I usually make it. I did make one but the prybar was way better.

I don't know of any cam holding tool. Did the book give a part number or did it just say use a suitable tool?

Didn't someone recently post a couple of foreign videos on rebuilding the valve gear on the Ecotec's. IIRC it showed the tool.

Yes there is a tool. Too pricey for what it is.

Kent-Moore J-43655 Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool (J43655)

The prybar has the same effect, as long as the gears won't turn you're good to go.
Here's the Danby version, about 10 bucks if you haven't got one lying around. I believe it's a "carpenters" prybar because of the nail removers in it. Who knows, it works for me.

Since I don't want anyone "prying" on there cam gears. Let me explain, I'm using the width of the bar to hold the gears. It needs to be put in at a slight angle. If you notice, it gets wider at the ends. I just insert and then tap it in until it wedges tight between the two gears. I would've taken a pic with it on the gears but all my heads are in pieces.

If you mean to hold the camshaft while you break loose the bolt holding the cam drive sprocket on , it's a 24 mm wrench.
The tool in the very foreign movie( thanks to Steelie Dan and Peg) that tool holds the sprocket and chain in place to facilitate removing the cam shafts

Thanks, I will may try the prybar. I'm more concerned about this at assembly time.
