Time out... I know we don't like to throw parts at a problem, but a new harmonic balancer isn't that much money and doesn't seem all that difficult. You're starting to get into a fairly big job with a timing set.

Balancer 2010 HHR SS and they even call it a vibration damper, so you had it right after all!

Reason for asking is that the water pump and balance shafts are all run from the same chain assembly... A slip or jump of that chain could certainly cause a vibration. If you can't find the issue externally, you will need to go internal.
Doc
Do you have a picture to show this?
How/why would the chain jump?
Tensioner being a worn part?

Found this, shows how to check the balancer chain to see if it's tight, without tearing everything apart.

I am still considering replacing the vibration damper , but this article to check if the chains are loose is good ! I will also check them , basically if they are both tight there is no way the chain on the balance shaft sprockets would have skipped a tooth and this will lead me to believe the vibration is not from the balance shafts being out of timing , Correct ? Even if the chain was loose is it even possible it could skip a tooth ?

Has anyone ever turned the engine counter-clockwise? That will surely skip at least one tooth.

Guy's I think I found a problem ! I opened the small water pump access panel and stuck my fingers in there to see if the chain was tight , It's really loose , I mean a lot. This is the chain that drives the balance shafts right ? Have not checked the cam timing chain yet but at this point it doesn't really matter it needs to come apart . I'm not sure if this is what's causing the vibration because the balance shafts are out of timing but it still needs to be fixed.

As much as I wish it were something simple, I'm glad you may have found the problem, Nice troubleshooting DrLoch!!

Ok ! Here's the find . 1st: Timing chain is tight with no problems or visible wear. 2nd: loose balance shaft chain . Cause: broken left plastic guide that is by the balance shaft chain tensioner. It's so loose it had to have skipped a tooth or two . 3rd: on the right side balance shaft there is an arrow that should be lined up with a yellow link on the chain ? The link is about 5 links away from the arrow. The balance shafts are out of time, right ?
