2006 2LT 17" Rims - Tire Variety

What other tire sizes can I fit on the stock 2006 2LT rims without having any major problems? I kinda wanna go a bit wider on both the tire width as well as the aspect ratio on the sidewall.

Could I fit up to 225s? What about 235s? I'd like to get 225/50/17s or 225/55/17s. I'm more focused on a increased sidewall width.

I've got the stock 215/50/17s. Does anyone also know the width of the stock rims? Are they 7"? 7.5"?

Thanks in advance!

These are the rims, btw:

225/50 should be no problem, not sure about 235's....... I think the 55's may be too tall. (borderline too tall, may depend on brand) Stay under a 26" diameter (height) or you will have clearance problems up front.

I think the stock 2LT rims are 7".

I had just tried 225/55-17s and they are a hair to close in the front when you turn the wheel. Also a little too close in rear near a piece in the wheel well. I took pictures and will post on my thread about the 2009 Pontiac G6 Rims.

thanks

Thanks, guys. I might go with 225/50's then.

Now as if I wasn't pushing it enough, do you think I'll still be able to install a lowering kit if I get 225/50s? Like either the popular Eibach or Goldline kits?

What can I say.. I want to clean up that gap! It looks so awkward, especially in the rear. I do want to maintain same tire sizes in the front and back though so I can still rotate them.

I've been thinking of that too. If you're looking to go to a taller tire, would 215/55 x 17 fit? That is a taller size and should help you 'clean up the gap'! Does anyone know if that size will fit? I've tried searching, but maybe I'm using the wrong search terms...

A 215/55 X 17 would be over 26" diameter so it might rub up front. (26.31" by the tire calculator) If they did fit it would be really close to rubbing on the strut spring perch. For height that seems to be the problem clearance spot.
