Firestone Firehawk GT Tires
Firestone Firehawk GT Tires
Just wanted to let everyone out there in HHr land know that I picked up a set of Firehawk GT 255/55 R16 tires and Freaking LOVE them! 50,000 mile warranty speed rating of h(113+), and they grip like god himself is holding your car on the road. I've tried to make them cut loose from the road and they just won't do it. improved handling in tight corners is an instant benefit.
right now Firestone is have a buy 3, get the fourth free promotion until the end of April. With tires, road hazard, mounting and balancing it came to around $544. these are a replacement foe the factory Firestone affinity touring tires. Dump your lame cruising tires and get some traction....and well they look pretty sweet too! they are a a lot wider than the affinities.
In sublimation.....go get some new rubber...now!!!!!

Just make sure you check for rubbing between the tires and the lower spring perch on the struts, anything over a 26" OD is known to cause a problem with rubbing on HHR's. A quick calculation showed you to be at roughly 27" OD, so keep an eye on things.
Also remember that at an indicated 60 mph, you'll actually be doing 64 mph, so don't make an unintentional contribution to the highway fund...AKA "I was going how fast officer?".
As far as the Affinity's go, I think you'll find they are universally hated here, awful tires...just awful.

Here's another handy dandy rim/tire calculator to check out too.

I checked out the clearance....you guys were right. it's close, about 3/4" but the fronts are not rubbing. I also wanted to reiterate that I have 16" rims, not the optional 17" package.
