What Brand Of New Tires Should I Buy ???
What Brand Of New Tires Should I Buy ???
Ok everyone I just got my new (to me) '07 HHR LT-1 2.4 engine from the original owner with only 40,000 miles on it !! The car truly looks and runs like new but it does still have the original P-215 55-R/16 Firestone Infinity tires on it. The tires are about 3/4 worn out and with winter fast approaching it's time for new ones. I went to Sam's Club and they had by far the best prices on the Goodyear Assurance Touring tire that looks to be from all the internet tire reviews a nice tire for a good price mounted & balaned for about $440.00. Any one else reading this have the Goodyear Assurance touring tires on there HHR ?? If so are they quiet and a good all weather tire ??? Any other tire recomendations or different brands I should consider ??? Thanks from up in cold Minnesnowta LOL !!!
Go to any tire company web site and see what they recommend for your car. I had some Goodyear assurance on the car, but my suspension (shock/struts) was bad and scalloped the tires. They got very noisy and I replaced them earlier this month after 40K miles. The tread was still good, but it sounded like I was driving on knobby tires. I ended up with Cooper Lifeliner @ $600 for four mounted and balanced which was the same cost at Sam's for the Goodyear Assurance.
While its hard to go wrong with any quality tire brand these days, I did have trouble with my last set of Michelin tires to the point that I'll probably stay away from that brand entirely from now on.
At the moment I have Continental Extreme Contact tires on all three HHR's, but while they are wonderful down here in essentially snow-less Carolina, I don't think I'd even try them in a Minnesota winter.
I'm sure that some of our "snow country" folks will chime in with their thoughts and recommendations.

Drove my 2011 from the dealer to the tire store to pick up 4 Goodyear Assurance for summer - ended up with Dunlap for winter treads. I had the Goodyears on my Saturn for the past 4 years & they have been great. Didn't hesitate to get them for the HHR. Only put 6K on them before I switched to the winter Dunlaps last week. I miss the chrome wheels!
PS - recycled the original Firestones to Saturn as the Goodyears were nearly used up & I didn't want to buy three sets of tires in one year. This way both vehicles have nice new tires - the HHR has two new sets!

Can't go wrong with the Goodyear Assuance triple treds. They last a long time and work well summer and winter. Here in the snow belt I have two winters on the HHR and 4 winters on the GTP with them and no need for snow tires.
Tires are like car lines each company has good and bad models. You want to get the newest designs and you also don't have to pay top dollar but don't expect the cheapest tires to give the best performance or service.
The Pilots on my SS in the summer are crap. They have poor traction dry and none wet hence the Goodyears in the winter. But that does not mean all Michelins are crap. The same applies to all makes and models of tires.
Goodyear just came out with an updated Triple Tred so they should be even better than the last.
Note too often you can save some money going with a lesser brand name owned by the larger company. Dunlops are owned and made by Goodyear in the same plants by the same people. Some of the models will perform nearly the same as the Goodyears with just a small difference in miles and handling.
Same for Firestone owned by Bridgestone or Goodrich and Uniroyal owned by Michelin.

Thanks for the help but if you read my post I mentioned I can get 4 Goodyear Assurance Touring tires mounted up/balanced and out the door@Sam's Club for $440.00
Which is a heck of a deal right ?? Cooper's are great tires but at $160.00 less dollars i'll go with the Goodyears I guess
