Here are my wheels for the winter.
You can see the development lamels. In Russia, a tire called "lipuchka" - it means "Velcro" or "stuck". The tire sticks to the ice or frozen Asphalt.
The tire consists of a soft rubber - this does not harden in the cold. In the rubber introduced abrasive particles and silicon crystals - they work like microscopic spikes.
We have snowy winters. Permanent snow cover is at the end of October and bare asphalt rarely see until April. Snow and ice crust - a common condition of the road. You have such weather in Canada and Alaska. It sometimes happens that one night snowfall depth to the knee.
I'm moving back to the midwest/midsouth in December. I will probably try these out for one snowfall after I get there. If they don't fare to well I can switch then. If I do I can sell these tires for what I paid for the wheels. It's a little hard finding snow tires over here and don't have time to ship them, the car ships out soon.
That is the way it use to be here about 10-15yrs ago. Not anymore...
Sometimes, the TV news show sudden snowfall in the U.S.. So it was in New York last winter. The snow was not much on the Russian view and the weather was warm. But the municipality of New York is not prepared for such weather. This is a warm city, it is not enough snow plows, stocks icing chemicals minor, cleaners do not have the experience of daily snow removal. In those days, I sincerely sympathy to Americans. Need to be a real hero
to go to the unmanaged streets on summer tires.
