Bill -

What is your opinion of a meth injection kit?

My tuner is against it, but maybe the direct injection vehicles are different?

We're working with a variety of possible solutions. This Bosch PCM and its DIS logic are literally a quantum leap ahead from previous Delphi PCM's. That's not to say the Delphi's are not sophisticated...it's just that software companies like HPTuners are well suited to work with a family of product they've been 'cracking' for years like the Delphi. In such a scenario, they basically analyze and address the new revisions that emerge with each new model year. When something this different comes along, it's a daunting task that forces them to start from scratch.

Meth addiction is like any other type...you get hooked, then your world falls apart when it's taken away.

When your engine is hooked on meth, it's the same thing...it loves it, until it's gone...then the descent into criminality. In this case, the crime is damaged pistons

What my facetious stage play here is trying to say is simply this...methanol injection is great until for some reason or another, it doesn't work when you need it. By then, you've got tuning and boost levels at such a state that the lack of meth can be dangerous to the engine.

Now, with all due respect, today's systems have multiple safeguards, and have eliminated a lot of the potential mischief that used to be associated with a sudden, unexpected meth delivery failure. I'm still a bit leery, as I prefer the solutions I profess to my flock to be as close to 100% dependable as possible. This means I do have to somewhat 'dumb it down' to keep the less aware among my consituents out of trouble. So for them I am the Meth Nazi: "No meth for you!"

In the hands of a skilled, observant enthusiast, the bets are much more hedged. For the beginner who may not realize when the system doesn't work, or what detonation sounds like, the results can be horrendous.
