" A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a
blank check made payable to 'The United States of
America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my
life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people
in this country who no longer understand it.'"

You got that right. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt, paid my dues.

now, eric is right,no one checks for cats in texas, well atleast not with my cars. if you were in cali,oh yeah they will check!!!

i have a friend with a bad ass evo, turbo back no cats. he runs race gas and he gets perfect reading every single time.
Dallas, Houston, Austin and surrounding areas have an emission inspection now. San Antonio is following soon. If you remove the cat and they see it is gone, it will fail the visual inspection. They will not even bother to perform the sniffer test. You are then "in the system", so going to another station will not help. (You pay for the "inspection" whether it passes or not.) FYI, a typical engine will not run any better with a properly functioning catalytic converter. Only after the cat has high mileage do they become a bottle neck. I would be surprised to see a noticeable gain on one of our (HHR SS) cars. Also, "technically" it is illegal for a muffler/ repair shop to remove a properly functioning cat. Bottom line, leave it in place . Like stated above, off road only MEANS off road only. It is not worth the hassle. Back in my high school days (back in the 1900's), I had an 82 Chevy SWB stepside truck that I yanked the wheezer 305 out of and installed a 325-350 hp 355 SBC. I removed the cats on so that I could run leaded fuel. (Did I just reveal my age? I am not eve 40 yet!)
