Disappointed with K&N intake
#31
My hhr runs great with a K&N drop in. I did however lightly wash mine off before install, clean my maf while it was apart and wrapped my box and inlet tube in reflectix. The reflectix made a huge difference in power on hot days. It pretty much eliminated heat soak, on 90+ degree days the top of my intake is cool to the touch, before it was almost as hot as the block.

Really, that big of a difference. I need to do something similiar. The airaid setup works great, but when you are sitting still the intake temp. Gauge will rise to 140 and above.

it seems to be running great today but then again i cleaned the MAF so it could just be that. Part of me wants to clean and lightly re-oil the filter. I havent re-oiled it yet but its only been about 8months since i bought it.

Yeah the reflectix really works wonders. Used to on hot days ESP with the A/C on my hhr just felt absolutely gutless. Now I feel almost no difference between cool nights or 90+ days. It's like 16 bucks for a roll of the reflectix plus I picked up some extreme duty double sided tape and metal tape. For 25 bucks it's an easy cheap mod and while it may not make a difference in total HP it will make a huge difference in power lost to heat.

Here you go swerv. If it wasn't for the tape on the top edge you'd never notice it, except on the inlet tube. I just used the double sided tape to hold it in place on the box and between layers, I used two, and then taped the edges down with the metal tape. Today the top if my intake box was the coolest thing in the engine bay, no joke, and it was 95°+ here. It was only slightly warmer after several hours than it was before I started or today just from ambient temps.

I found it in Lowes, in the same area they keep insulation. I've found similar products online but this seems to work great. Like I said for 25 bucks or so it's a cheap mod and on hot days it made a huge difference in my power not falling off. And even with two layers it's still able to snugly fit into the brackets but with your airaid it shouldn't matter. I say home depot should carry similar or the same thing.
