... i like the idea of having I to prevent 4th gear hurting while towing. As owners manual recommends
but for sporty driving, i really warmly recommend getting hhr with manual tranny.

dont break your automatic trannies playing with them. FWD trannies are nowadays not so long lasting as good-ole-TH´s.

I throw mine into "I" from time-to-time...usually on really curvy roads or when I'm in traffic going up hill. I try not to make it habit though due to the lasting effects...if there are even any.

Here are 2 HPTuner charts with what's going on, when the shifter is placed into,
TOW mode, the intermediate, or "I" position…
As you can see in the chart, 4th gear is locked out, unless you reach 318mph…
And with 1st, if you put all zeros, for the 1 to 2, & the 2 to 1 rows, you can lock out
1st, for winter driving, when you want to start out in 2nd gear.

So, with HPTuner you can mod this table to suit your driving style, or race track,
to create your own mode.
Track mode.
Race mode.
Winter mode.
Fun mode.
ect, ect.
You can set this table for higher shift points, for drag racing.
You can set this table to start in 2nd gear, for winter driving.

I had never thought of driving in any gear other than drive. I am going to give the "I" a try on my next time out.
I, too, never thought about it, but it sounds like fun....and should save on the trans by not going back and forth with o/d in traffic, Thanks all.

I love driving my SS in Intermediate, especially in town I always keep it there. Out on the highway then it is in drive.

Always more response when it is in "I"

Driving in "I" nets firmer shifts and shifting rpm is solely based on throttle position. With gentle throttle, "I" will shift at 4000rpm. Put your foot into it more and it's a whole different story - it will rap out as hard as you want to push. Also, it's not like driving in "L" or "2" of a normal trans, as "I" will allow full shifts to 3rd as well.

Give it another try and see what you can discover...
