I am SO glad I just read this post! I am sure deb (especially CJ) can verify my depression about these darn boards. We flat out can't afford them...period. We live paycheck to paycheck and buying our HHR put us even closer to broke every month.
To find out that our car needs a part over $500 to keep it from being further damaged is HEARTBREAKING!

This post just gave me hope! THANK YOU, Night!

not a problem, anyone can do it. Just so everyone has and Idea on how it works. Step 1 is to contact GM. Step 2 is they will tell you that there is nothing they can do. Step 3 you ask for their supervisor Step 4 they contact your local dealer and area rep, to see if they feel that you should receive what they call "assistance", if you have a halfway decent area rep and a good standing with your dealer then you have a shot. If not you go on to step 5 Keep calling and get everyone you know who has an HHR with this problem to call, and even some that don't. Recalls can get issued even without the goverment getting involved, it just takes enough complaints. Even as a dealership employee and getting phenomenal deals on parts, the boards would still run me just over $400, List shows as $680 painted. Which I am not about to pay for a design overlook. Can not call it a flaw, they just should have made boards standard, anyways my worth. Sorry for the long post. Hard to stop once I get started. LOL

How to get Customer Assistance

1. Discuss your concern with dealership management.
2. If the matter cannot be resolved by the dealership without further help, use the 800 numbers below to contact the appropriate Customer Assistance Center with the following information:

Your name and daytime telephone number
Make, model and year of vehicle
Name of your dealer
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) if possible
Brief description of your concern

This will add some texture to the bottom, but after a high gloss finish you shouldn't see and hopefully stop this from re-occuring. If I get up the energy maybe I will call GM and complain and see if they will put boards on for free. I already know my area rep will not do it for me.
I`m looking for a set of stone guards, if/when you get the work done, give me a pm.

Thumbs up

Ahhh...atleast someone is brave enough to post the #. I am not allowed to give it out freely, atleast according to my area rep. Even though its in most owners manual, and on certain gm sites.

thanks for posting it HillsdaleHHR

It's in owners manual and can be easily found on the web using a search engine.

My HHR is back from the dealer.
Rear quarters repainted. Color matched running boards installed. HHR mud flaps installed.
Total bill $115.00
What a relief to have my car back and in like new shape.
