I gave up on my external antenna, even with the shorty. The base kept cracking, and I only hand washed my car. The internal amplified gives great reception, even without being powered on.

I am not having any reception issue with my SoCal stubby until I get 50 miles from town, I put a clear coat on and lookie this, no rust.
And Yep I will be putting up SoCals old stock somewhere after I clear them.
