XM Radio problem

I have an '09 HHR LT w/ factory XM. It has an auto-starter, and what's interesting is that the song info on the XM radio will display properly only if I use the auto-starter. If I just step into the vehicle and turn the key over normally it will display the current song, and will stay there (info doesn't update). If I switch channels I'll see nothing or the same song info on every channel.

Had it in once, but the dealer stated it was working as it should. It seems to be worse now than ever.

Anyone ever experience this before?

That's a new one on me, I'd say the problem might just lie in the head unit. Maybe ChevyMGR can weigh in on this tomorrow, might have seen this issue where he works.

Never seen this on any vehicle. If theres not an update for the programming, then I would say it's the Radio Head. Does it display any information on AM/FM?

I have an '09 SS with similar behavior.

Seeing that it is manual - I've always started it with a key...

About 50% of the time, it will display the first song info correctly, and then until I shut the car off - just show that one song title and artist over and over regardless if I switch XM stations or not.

About 25% it will just display the station, w/out cycling between artist/title/station like it normally does.

The remaining 25% of the time it works fine - until I shut the car off ;-)

There have been rare occasions where it will display the channel number and the time - and nothing else..

My '08 HHR LT does not have these issues - but then the radios were changed between those years.

I'd love to be able to display the current firmware in the unit and see if it needs an upgrade. It has done this almost from day 1. (2 years)

With my Harley, I can just download a firmware image, dump it on CDR and pop it into the radio and upgrade it - wish it was that easy with these things...

As a rule I rarely ever use AM/FM - so I've never checked to see if they displayed properly when XM was messed up...

I would look at the ign switch wonder is there is a power feed not getting powered up intermittently? when you auto start the ign switch is by passed try moving the key around a bit and see if anything happens. I think its worth a try ;

Thanks guys. FM radio is pretty sparse around here, so I rarely switch to that band. I'll take a look today and let you know.

FM radio seems to be unaffected. It would seem to be an XM-only issue. I'll ask about the head-unit next time I visit the dealership.
