If you wanted to go through the effort you could drop the the cradle to get to the captured nut and tack weld it. I don't think I would use a nylon nut. Try to get the nut and bolt be close on the Galvanic scale to avoid corrosion. Maybe some ant-seize or dielectric grease would help the next guy.
You would not want a loose fit in the bushing sleeve, that would defeat the purpose. Needs to be a tight clearance fit, almost interference.

Dropping the cradle doesn’t give enough room on the driver’s side to get a MIG wand into weld the cage.
The idea of a large piece of metal with threads and resistance against the length of the piece to hold it from spinning, I don’t know why they wouldn’t have done this in the first place.

I think this is brilliant. Might be more manageable to use much thinner stock and just weld on a nut, tho. Certainly would be for me.
