Did they, in fact, come with the 'problem solver' ball and socket design rear bushing? The ones pictured in the Moog catalog for my 2008 model are specified as stamped steel. The cast aluminum have the standard rubber/elastomer sleeved rear bushing.

Don't you read? Those are the stamped steel ones - and yeah they may be listed as being for the HHR, but they aren't the right ones.
They probably will fit (as the platform is shared with the Cobalt), but will not be as strong as the cast ones (the Cobalt is a lighter vehicle).

Are we just wasting our times trying to steer you in the right direction?

This has been discussed Oldblue found that initially the bushing offered by Moog had a steel wrapper for steel control arms; they later came up with the same part with a zinc (I think) coating to be used for the alloy arms.

There is a very small worry that unlike metals can cause a corrosion problem. I don't think the LCA will last long enough for that to happen.

The Moog catalog is in no way definitive and sometimes completely wrong.

Yes, and don’t get me started on corrosion problems, I live in the snow belt / rust belt of southern Ontario, Canada.
the steel arms are cheaper and for the Cobalt , not the HHR!

Go to your local chain auto parts store and get a kit. I have no idea why a shop can't do it. I know it is simple to do.

I think the tool would be a ball joint press. You might need to get 2 kits and mix 'n match the cups to fit.

"Press" does not mean hydraulic press a simple screw press is the thing.

Yes the tool is a ball joint press.
I know Auto Zone rents this tool for free.

This is for Cobalt (same thing) at the 10:50 mark you can see the tool being used.

Another method

https://www.suspension.com/blog/how-...thout-a-press/

I don’t know why a mechanic would decline the job .
perhaps a machine shop in your area?
