Should the corrosion be that bad after just 15,000 miles? Seems the powder coat didn't hold up! What do you think Aaron?

 

We just looked and it was purchased 2 years ago. Depending on if the paint was chipped from install, or the environment in the last 2 years, can play a big factor. I have seen many new cars have rust spots in just a couple years, that is why auto manufactures state the rust must completely go through the metal before they cover it. Being 1/4" plate steel, it would take a could decades (20 years) for that to happen to this.

My honest guess is there was a small chip from install and it got under the powder coat, being that close to the bolt area.

Never the less being it is outside of warranty, he/she could always ship it back and we can completely strip it and re coat it (for a fair price).

 

Ive got one of your rear sway bars no corrosion, even near the bolts.
but my trailer hitch is powder coated and chipped and peeling so you never know
like any other coating its all in the preparation

I tend to agree with Oldblue about preparation. The powder coat was pristine when I installed the mount, but I suspect the rust and powder coat fail started in the gap where the two pieces of steel meet and are welded together...or maybe not.

 

Well powder coat does not get into all the nooks and crannies like a paint bath dip will!
So if that's where the peeling started then it's the nature of the beast!
