Cost effective
looking for a cost effective way to get my FOB-s back up and running. Yes I know, "search it".. my phone is being a P.O.S. right now and I'm unable to reach a computer..
Any suggestions HHR family?

Hey Kev, here's a link to the thread on repairing the cold solder joints that are most likely causing your fobs to be non-functional.

And here's the link to repairing the carbon contacts if the solder joints aren't the issue.

Oh, be sure to try a fresh battery just in case.

Nope, battery changes don't effect the programming at all. The only time you'd need to reprogram is when you actually replace the fobs with new ones, then you need to do the reprogramming so the vehicle recognizes the fobs.

Yup, got it.
Try some batteries, but check the battery holders in the fobs for loose joints at the three points pictured in the repair link, its a poor design and prone to breaking with something as trivial as dropping the keys in a parking lot....happened to me three times so far.

if its not the battery solder joint I would bet its the buttons. I have fixed many of these with this little jem from keylessfix.com It works very well it cost about 10.00 and no programing needed. It replaces the contacts on the buttons

When you remove the old battery. Be VERY careful, you should remove the entire circuit board and the PUSH the battery out of the cage DO NOT try to pull the battery out, NO upward pressure at all or you will break the solder joints! Same for re-insertion.
