Engine Warranty

I had a new GM engine installed in my 08 2.0 at a dealership. Paid dearly for that too!

Would carbon build up be covered under the warranty.

Thanks,
-Mark

Darn good question.

You may want to speak to the Service Manager on Monday morning.

Here's a link to the GM replacement components warranty page.

http://www.genuinegmparts.com/ShowPowertrainEngines.do

If you click the warranty link under the "Additional Engine Information" section, you can dowload the warranty in PDF form, but carbon buildup is not specifically mentioned.

They said it would only be covered if it causes a problem...rough idle and miss firing I would think is a problem?

I'd have to agree with you there, has it set any codes?

It did, was a miss fire code... Had it read at O'Riley's auto parts store, then deleted it. It's ran rough a couple more times but has not put the CEL back on yet. I bought some Techron but I know that is not going to clean the back side of the valves on a direct injection engine.

Hey 1900colt,

I see you are waiting to see if your check engine light comes back on. Please be sure to keep us posted as well. We can certainly reach out to your dealership on your behalf. You can private message us your name, VIN, phone number, and dealership name.

Carbon buildup caused misfiring and burnt valves on mine last year. GM covered a full top end rebuild with new head and timing components. Took only 4 months, but saved me $6500.

Thanks Erica, I will be sure to contact you once it happens again. I did put a couple bottles of Techron in the gas, which I believe is the same stuff GM uses and a couple other car manufacturers recommend using.
