In Washington State we have license plates on the front and back.
I have mastered a way of no noise on either.
Front uses the Factory HHR Black Plastic mounting plate.
Top fits in a groove that holds it, and the bottom fastens with 2 screws but I put a piece of Black Neoprene Closed Cell Foam with adhesive on the back 1/4" thick and 1/2" wide in between the 2 screws so it has a little pressure against the bottom.
The rear, I use a couple of Dealer advertising plastic inserts I've saved in behind the plate so there is no metal touching anything and then either use the factory bottom rubber bumpers or 2" long Neoprene Foam pieces over the bumper hole area to protect the license plate from making contact with the Metal Hatch and close the gap to make the plate fit snug.
I do no use the Plate frames or covers anymore because they cause issues of various types.
Both ends of the HHR are absolutely quiet from Plate Noise.

This is interesting.
Went on GM Parts Direct but can't get the right wording to find them.
Might have to go to Ace Hardware as they have all sorts of random bolts/nuts and what not in one isle of the store. Maybe find rubber bumpers that could work.

Ok, so another habit I have developed the past month. I always drive with the MPG AVG on display at all times! I guess it helps me keep my foot in check in traffic LOL and I find myself coasting more often.
I switch back and forth between MPG instant and coolant temp.
I was warned to keep my eye on that coolant temp and I doggedly stare at it for mile after uneventful mile. I guess it's time to let it go and start watching where I'm going again, but that seems so 20th century.
I solved the rattling license plate frame. As I close the hatch I put my fingers under it.
High tech, that's me!
