Lake pipes increase performance?

I'm sorry, I am a little slow. While reading the lake pipe install how-to I just realized that these pipes are non-functional. I am a firm believer that anything you put on your car should serve a funtional purpose, and I just don't get the lake pipes. Why make the car heavier and slower just for the looks? Now I need instructions on how to intall my two foot high wing on the back of my HHR. No offense to anybody, just my opinion.

You're correct. They're only for looks.Yes,there's a weight increase but there would be only a negligible decrease in performance unless the pipes weigh quite a bit.You pays your money, you makes your choice.

They can be made functional, but most shouldn't be. The ones that are chrome, the metal is too cheap. We used to sell stainless stell lakes which would have worked well.

There was a member here a year or two ago who made his lakes functional and he was very happy with the performance.
