RWD HHR in the works
Details, details
I spent 2 days just working on mounting brackets for the sub frame. The little details seem to take the most time. I'm really going all out on the strength aspect of this build because of seriousness of cutting into a unibody car. All will be for nothing if this car isn't safe to drive. This picture is of one of the brackets that use the old fuel tank mounting holes. I'm trying to make use of as many existing "hard spot" mounts as possible.
More Fabing
Spent the whole day working on the rear trans mount. Made it out of 3/16" and 1/4" stock. Nuts welded inside so it should be easy to install the actual cross member that has the trans mount on it. Tomorrow I'll tackle the rear axle torque arm. It's gettin' close.....
Fuel cell mounted
Finished making the straps for mounting the fuel cell out of 1/8 x1 1/2 flat stock steel. Next step is to disassemble the whole thing to finish up some welds I couldn't get to before.
Sub Frame Finished
I pulled the sub frame out of the mule and finished all the welds. All that is left is some grinding prior to powder coat. I put it on a bathroom scale and it weighed in at 135lbs., pretty hefty. Nobody ever accused me of under building anything. I'm also posting a couple pictures of the trailing arm mounts and how they were modified to clear the rear wheels.
