Everybody is focused on pulling and adequate handling and power.
It's also about braking capacity and with that goes the type of terrain you will encounter..
Take a rig with 1000lbs out and try to make a quick stop at 35 mph.
Now take it out again and try it at 60mph.
Get the message ??

You are correct Braking is very important when towing.
But I believe that the focus of this thread was about towing with a 5sp.
I know that the brakes are the same for an auto and a 5sp so I don't think we are talking about a dangerous act here.

I know it's been debated before, but the owners manual does state to not tow with a 5 speed.
From the manual:
Towing a Trailer
(Manual Transmission)
Do not tow a trailer if the vehicle is equipped with a
manual transmission.
