Eye Candy

Working on things that are very important but really doesn't look like much. I'm making a new rear trans mount, the original is too low. I don't want to be leaving my trans pan on some bump I go over. I have to wait a couple of days to use my friends Bridgeport to machine the holes in the spindles for the tie rod inserts so I can't do that just yet. I thought I would post a photo of the engine with the fuel rail covers on. They even match the seats and door panels.

The cover saying hhr would be nice but how wouldn't want to brag about having a corvette engine in your hhr . Looks good to me

Tie Rods finished

Well my half baked idea to flip the tie rods upside down seems to work. I used my buddies Bridgeport mill and machined 3/4" hole where the tapered hole once was. I also milled off 3/16" off the thickness to compensate for the two ends of the steel insert I made to make the tapered hole go the other way. I soda blasted the whole spindle assembly and shortened and threaded the Camaro tie rods another 1/2". This gives me enough adjustment for the correct toe in.

He can add an HHR decal if he chooses.

Tie Rod Success!

Here is a couple of pics of the tie rod assembly complete. When I lower the front of the car with the air struts to it's lowest point I would ever drive the car it still keeps an acceptable angle on the tie rod. (which by the way is 4" of clearance under the engine cradle) Tomorrow I will be pulling the rear axles out to swap the Camaro brakes right to left so that I get a better line up with the HHR parking brake cables. I'll post more pics then...it will make more sense when you see it.
