What Air Intake System to Use?
I did my install yesterday, and all went well.
The only loss was a torx bit that I dropped, I just never found where it fell when it slipped out of my hands taking off the "Turtle Box".
I used BigAllis1 Gallery pictures as a guide where the K&N instructions were not crystal clear to me. It took me about an hour to do the install.
I got stumped on the 6mm studs you had to add.
It took me a while to figure out where the holes were.
Once I placed the K&N Box on the rear bracket and looked down at the engine, I saw them on the valve covers. The filter (RC-5149) is a tight fit, where you have to put the tube into the box, into the filter, and then twist it down and connect it to the engine. I assume this will be the process in reverse when changing the filter, unless I can find a smaller filter that can be removed easily in the box.
I really like the sound when you are accellerating for that short period of gear change. I was a little concerned I would be hearing the "Var-Room..." all the time, but after a test drive it was only a short time. I really didn' want to add more noise, but it's just right!
Thanks for all of you who exchanged messages with me.

Glad all went well with your install. It sound's like you are experiencing the same results I did.
I am definately gona talk to the tech's at K&N about the instruction sheet. It can be improved.
Jim......
isn't there an option for a K&N that sits open topped on top of the engine. It's the FIPK kit, or have I just seen this one with its top off? Any one take a photo of the filter installed before they put the cover on it. and is this considered the cold air kit? Thanks guys This is my next purchase for my 2.4

I just remembered helping a customer with this type of filter, on some other car. Be careful using this in CA. The 63 series filterkits are the ones that have not been tested or have not passed the CA. air resource board and been okayed for use on emission controlled vehicles in this state. When it becomes approved the part # will change to the 57 series, which are all the approved filters. I used a non approved K&N kit on an 95 Turbo Eclipse I had and never had any troubles I just took it off to get it smogged. Boy did that thing fly with that set up on it
Probably so Howdy.
