Today , we roll , off to Grimsby Ontario, for Sweetie 'a retirement party!
Yesterday, I took the GT to a custom exhaust specialist, he's going to fab up an original like cat back system, the GT came from the factory with an 18 inch resonator and dual mufflers.
More about that in a couple of weeks!

Tried to replace cracked bumper reinforcement from 2006 HHR. Was 1/8" too short, so put old one back on. Strike one!
Was going to install mud flaps but they were the wrong size, too. Strike two!
Proceeded to swap black mirrors/handles bc I didn't really like the chrome. Managed to break the passenger side housing in the process. Lots of cursing ensued. Strike three!
Decided not to take a chance with driver side as it would suck having both door broken! But... I did happen to have some extra black covers. So, figured I'd just cover the driver's side chrome handle with the black. When I went to grab the covers, it turned out I had some extra handle housings! Much to my delight! Replacing the passenger side housing was by far easier than the drivers side, thanks to the lack of lock linkage.
So... long story short? Didn't really get much done, outside of going back to black on my mirrors and handles.
The upside? Yes, there is one. I can return the mirrors for a decent credit towards my next salvage scavenger hunt!
So, while my day wasn't as productive as I would have liked, I did have time to chew on how I plan to clean up the OHC, as well as finish up the wiring. :)

I took it to a car show...first time this year ive had it out for more than a few blocks...im there now and posting this with my brand new Galaxy S8 Plus...kinda bored cause Eve is at work and couldn't scare up any other models to shoot...but they do have a DUNK TANK...

Managed to run my battery down when I changed up the wiring for the dome light (doink!)). Anyway, my first (and hopefully, last) jumpstart. Luckily the battery wasn't totally dead, just not enough power to turn over the engine, so no major problems, there.
Anyway, figured out/fixed my wiring problem... I had tied the power from the digital display to the lights, which basically "shorted" the courtesy lights to "always on." (double doink!) Have since split out the digital display to its own circuit which now gets its power from the BCM fuse box RAP using "add a circuit."
Finally hooked up the VSS and calibrated the compass. Yay! Still need to hook up the temp sensor but need to do a bit more research, first.
Added iSimple HDMI to composite A/V. Will be adding a flush-mount USB/HDMI with the USB tapped into accessory power via another "add a circuit." Not sure where I will be placing it, though, I do like PurdueGuy's cubby idea.
Pulled an OnStar VCIM + harness + antenna from a 2008 HHR. It turns out it is the older, non-blue tooth model. Which is fine by me, as my HU already has bluetooth & works fine with my iPhone GPS using Pioneer's AppRadio.
Instead, I am toying with hacking the GPS/Cellular hardware... and possibly creating a jury rigged lan for war driving and what not with an rPI3... or something of that nature.
As for my next "real project"? It appears my video switching system has hit state side. Which means, installing my 360° blindspot video/sensor system next. That is, after hooking up the temp sensor.

I installed a K&N Air Charger kit and replaced the wooly worm today. I cut the rubber grommet from the worm to the fender, and my 3" house from spectre fit on it snugly. After installation, I took measurements to machine a flange for adding a second hose and sealing of the front of the box where the air exits through to the throttle body. It sounds a lot more aggressive, but my butt dyno isn't telling me anything. A very easy installation for anyone

We rolled out for a cruise to get bedding plants for the garden, then had coffee with friends in Niagara Falls Ontario. My GM parts guy called , my new steering gear rack is in , we'll pick that up this afternoon!

Exactly like that Old Blue. The model number is different, and the name. I don't know what on the box is different, but mine is not California emissions compliant.
I read of some other ways to close it up on various threads, but your way seems to be the easiest. Do you know what the reasoning was to leave it gapped like that?

No idea, my kit was installed at K&N on member Hib Halverson's HHR , so it was there that gap was sealed up, here it is in the install photos page #2 post #20
