Today, we drove out for a 45 minute drive, HHR was cold, the temperature went up to 180F in about 18 minutes, no flatline , no CEL , I’m still replacing the thermostat…
When you take the old thermostat out but before you put the new one in, you could put them both in a pot of water on the stove, turn on the heat, and compare how they behave. A meat thermometer should be handy. Don’t lose track of which one is which. If you have a bad one it seems worth returning for a refund, right?
This weekend I dumped as much the original Dexcool from the 2011 LS (88K miles, really looked good) as I could with the petvalve and the water pump plug but no thermostat removal, and refilled. No flush. Only took maybe 1.3 gallon to refill, so,left some old stuff behind, but better than nothing, and all the time I had, for now. Runs 180-192F no matter what, as before.
Sunday we took the SS on a drive mostly through beautiful Ohio farm country to pick up a set of used black Sparcos for her. Shopped the Medina town square, had amazing pulled pork samishes at a local BBQ joint. Four hours on the road, only encountered one Amish buggy. Good day.

The old thermostat is from December 2020, so no warranty. We used to test thermostats by opening the valve and putting a piece of string thru it, then the bring the water to boiling noting the water temperature.
In this case , I simply have to inspect the thermostat to see if the valve is open as it seems to be stuck that way.
the original was and you could see the rubber was causing it to stay open.
If it looks anything like this^^^^ we’ll know it’s not the ECT sensor
Greybeard- Saw that, figured it is maybe a new fangled 'lectric car.. or a merged pic.. LOL
My ride got the new tires on today, the rim guards really make them plumper looking..(225's). My mom& pop shop lets me in the shop, so I got to check things out, pull the drums & bang the brake dust outta them, check front pads & wipe all down fully.. That Ceramic paint from Eastwood is really holding up well..
Tomorrow I'll be checking the air pressure in them cold.. Rides so smooth & quiet..
Thanks! Didn’t need to merge images, though, just put the fone in pan mode. The distortion of moving objects can be hilarious, with people’s heads disembodied, etc.
I drove up the the_shmoo’s place and assisted in changing the timing and balance shaft chains in his 2006 2LT. It’s a pleasure working on such a nice clean car! Thanks for the coffee and lemonade!

j got done yesterday changing the valve cover gasket on my SS at my buddies' new garage that also incorporates a DIY for user like myself that dont have a garage to work in. the project took longer than expected, about 3hrs, mainly trying to get the braided pcv from the turbo out and later reinstalled. also took some time to scrub and clean the outside of the valve cover. while the cover was off i checked the timing chain guides and whether there was any slack in the chain, which there wasnt, and the top guide was still intact. was also able to do a compression check on each cylinder. so the cylinder closest to the passenger and going to the right are as followed: 150, 145, 145, 150 which all seem within spec. the reason i wanted to check the compression was that i noticed coolant in the overflow was slowly decreasing. maybe i should had done a leak down test?
A radiator pressure test should determine the coolant loss . Sometimes the drain valve on the passenger side lower corner of the radiator leaks, the hose for the overflow tank, the weep hole on the water pump, if it was a head gasket, #2 and 3 cylinder would be suspected. Do you have any white smoke out the tailpipe?
