Always surprises in life.

 

Today , another warm 40 F day, so we are going out for a cruise, run some errrands and stop for a burger somewhere, maybe Simcoe, or Tillsonburg, Ontario.

 

Yesterday, I changed the transmission fluid, replaced the transmission fluid pan and GM gasket, and filter and seal. There were red drops of transmission fluid on my driveway since that snow bank ordeal a few weeks ago, the transmission shifts perfectly now and the 40 mph surge is gone! I put 5 quarts or 4.73 litres in , then 2 litres for a total of 6.73 litres , I took a ten minutes drive then returned to my garage and checked the fluid level, another .2 litres and the fluid just started to drip, good enough.
Today we drove out to the country went for a walk , stopped for a coffee then drove home, I rolled it back into the garage, checked the fluid level again and it’s the same as before. Perfect. The odometer turned 275,000 klms or 170,877 miles

 

Got the car back from the body shop with the lower inside door edges now repaired. Rust is gone. The guy pointed out that the rubber strip along the bottom edge holds moisture against the door, which is why it rusted. Guess I need to dry it off periodically, particularly after it rains a lot.
Anyway, the car smells like new paint.

 

Got the driver side frame rail, now just need to figure out how I'm going to hold the car up while I cut the rusted rail out.

Fixed the dang clicking noise I was getting behind the glove box from the cabin air recirculation door actuator without replacing it. It was clicking when in the fully open position due to some of the gears wearing down. I watched a youtube video of a guy using zip ties to act as artificial stop about a 1/4' before the actually stop which allowed the door and gears to stop prior to the worn down gears and no more clicking. Instead of zip ties I had some 3M stickable velcro laying around and stuck it to the top of the ducted and added a few more pieces of velco to make about 1/4" thickness and achieved the same results. No more noise!

 

Still happy with my Engine swap especially after getting the correct HHR injectors back in it. The dash is now actually recording better average MPGs than when I 1st purchased it with 50,000 miles. What a difference it makes when everything is fixed! LOL
Getting 31.8 mpg now and the most I have gotten in the past was 29.8 mpg.

 

That's the way to go! Keeping it GM "stock"! I had that noise and just let it go and annoy me until I sold it...
You're getting the maximum service time out of it, with a little ingenuity. Nice.

 

Today just a driveway snow removal and moved the BlackSwan to get all the snow.
