I think the majority of the grumbling about the filter comes from those of us who grew up with the luxury of popping the hood, undoing a wing nut, and "hey presto" there's the filter. Then you install the new element, plop the lid back on, polish any fingerprints off the chrome, and stand back to admire that shiny honker of an engine.

Man that's pretty. I walked up on a guy in Yorktown Va a few years back who had one of those in a '69 Yenko Camaro. He was pulling out but was happy to stop for a show and tell when I hollered "man that's one rare car you have there". It was totally stock and immaculate. Love those big block Chevy's.

Gee thanks for the compliment ecpff, back then the manufacturers cared about how they looked under the hood, and so did the owners.
I can't stand all this plastic junk they hide the engines under these days, nobody has ever asked me to pop the hood on my Challenger, but the hood on the SS seems to go up every time I stop somewhere with it.
Like a lot of folks here I've put a good bit of time and effort into how my HHR's look under the hood, but when its "staring at an engine time"...the SS always wins.
I can't stand all this plastic junk they hide the engines under these days, nobody has ever asked me to pop the hood on my Challenger, but the hood on the SS seems to go up every time I stop somewhere with it.

I agree with everything you wrote. I love me some 60's iron or even aluminum. Spent half my life working on big bore diesels for Uncle Sams Canoe Club (USCG) so you can bet I appreciate a nice power plant. You can bet if I'm ever in Charlotte I'm looking you up for a looksy.

You know I did. CG sent me to school at MKW Power Systems at Rocky Mount in the early 90's. Also came in early enough to work on 12 cylinder Coopers with articulating rods and bastatized with GE heads. Love me some big bores. Rode three 210's with 16 cylinder Alco's.

Gosh those Coopers were demented beasts, and the GE built FDL family of engines still are. MKW in Rocky Mount(cool!), been through that place a time or two over the years.
Slightly back to OT....I backed Boo Boo out of the way so the new grill could make its way to the courtyard for its maiden voyage...errr...use this afternoon. Steaks with corn on the cob, salads, and other goodies...our guests left happy and burping.

OT I walked past my HHR many time getting tools to use while installing the new lighting my Wifey picked out cause I am buying some used wheels. With the tiny halogen lites it makes the sparkles pop in the granite.

Gave mine a bath today, lol!
Also ordered splash guards, locking valve stem caps with bowtie emblem, rain guards for windows, mirror covers and a set of dragon claws for left side rear window. The right side window already has a dragon on it, so I thought it needed balanced out on the left.
