what is wrong with people these days?
I have had my HHR for about 3 months, and the first day a piece of gravel got kicked up, chipped the paint on the hood and cratered my windshield, then last week somebody chipped the paint to bare metal on a fender lip (no dent at least). I had my Silverado for 3 years with not a single ding (seriously), and likewise 4 years so far for my wife's BMW. WTF?
And the best part is, the statute of limitations has long since expired!
NOT ADMITTING THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO......
About 15 years ago I had a "trick one-of-a kind" El Camino. Almost everything added to that car was custom or hand made.....to a total invested dollar of $31,000. On one of the very rare occassions, I drove it to the local grocery and parked in the boonies.....and I mean in the far end of the lot with nothing near. Went in the store and returned to find some "snow birds" motor home parked next to the passenger side. For some reason, I walked around to that side and noticed a nice little dent and scratch (on a $4000 custom paint job) that matched his paint color and door path. I was really hot and waited about 30 minutes for the jerk to show up. Never did.
So I kicked in his drivers door....probably about $300-$400 in damage. Figured that was about what my repair would be. As I said...it's not right. But it did offer some justice ON MY PART.
If this sounds familar and resembles something that happened to you, give me a call. We will settle up
.
EDIT....Oh I forgot to mention...I left a note on his windshield explaining EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. If you still have the note....great confirmation.

I had only had my HHR 3 days when a white Saturn Vue parked next to me and dinged by passenger door. When I walked out of the store and saw how the Vue was parked (very crooked in large space), I just knew I'd been hit. Sure enough. I waited more than 20 minutes for the driver to return, but no luck. I left a very ::cough:: carefully worded note on the car. Then went over and stepped in a puddle, then very carefully placed a wet, dirty footprint in the middle of her door window. Didn't fix my car, but made me feel a bit better.
myneighbor the Dent Wizard ROCKS!
All is well that ends well. My neighbor, the Dent Wizard, fixed my car for el cheapo! So she's lookin' all nice and undinged again. Now, I'll be interested to see how BJ's takes care of my complaint regarding the gas attendant.
this happened this easter weekend in 2 nearby suburbs of my city, Vancouver. ---Update: More than 170 cars keyed in Burnaby and Coquitlam

Easter weekend proved to be an expensive one for the owners of over 174 cars vandalized in Burnaby and Coquitlam.
A recent rash of cases of cars being keyed - their paint damaged by someone maliciously scratching the paint and body - has had Coquitlam RCMP scratching their heads for the last month.
Two weeks ago, vandals keyed nearly 300 vehicles outside a Coquitlam movie theatre, and the week before that 140 cars were keyed outside a community centre.

Over the weekend vandals hit another 100 Coquitlam cars in the area between Austin Avenue, Mundy Street and Mariner Way.
Burnaby residents are now also dealing with the headache after 24 cars were keyed in a Keg restaurant parking lot, another 30 were keyed at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, and more than 20 more at the Burnaby 8 Rinks.
The Insurance Corp. of B.C. received about 110 claims between Friday and Sunday nights, a spokesman said yesterday, with about half originating in Burnaby and half in Coquitlam.
Reports have surfaced that the vandals specifically targeted more expensive vehicles, but RCMP have yet to confirm this with The Province.
More details to come.

A few years ago, for many years, my work required I travel 3-4 days a week and fly some 100,000 miles a year. On top of that, my wife (then girlfriend) and I were living in different cities, so my car would spend a GREAT deal of time at O'Hare and Midway where it acquired more than its fair share of pock marks, no matter how carefully I seemed to park.
What I'd notice however, is that if I let the ding be, I almost never got another. It's as if the smooth surface is some sort of molecular magnet that draws doors to it. As soon as I'd have a dent "popped", I'd catch another. (And they always seemed to happen when I thought I had parked the safest).
Bottom line? It's a cosmic anomaly like Hawking Radiation. :) And anyone who doesn't leave a note deserves summary castration.
