To answer you question is no there have not been problems with the IC sensor.

I know which one you speak of and even in the Cobalt they use the same one.

The only problem with the IC pipes is where it mounts and it can crack but that is also not a real common problem.

The good side to the web is when there is a problem we know about it. The bad side also is few people comnplain about their cars having no problems so we tend to hear more bad then good.

Sorry to hear of the problems and the dealer will get it fixed. This is not a buy back case unless you continue to have problems they can not fix and document them.

I would say 95 % of the people here so not have issues with their SS and a few have so just give the dealer a chance or if the dealer is not getting it done go to another dealer. Not all service departments are equal.

Folks that say that bringing it back to fix little issues need to take note, my '08 Honda Civic has never been back. That's what an American made car will do for you. The HHR is Mexican made. Thank Clinton and his predecessors for NAFTA. My Honda was made in Ohio. GM and the other "American-made" vehicles ought to take notice.

Anyone wonder why Honda and Toyota are not asking for a bailout?

Jim
first of all I bought an 09 not an 08, do you know much a new vehicle depreciates when you buy it and drive it off the lott? Yes, you got the deal of the century on your 08 for 3500 less. $26,750 was total cost, fully loaded TT&L, extended warranty, the the whole package. You are correct, American made vehicles are designed for parts to fail, and they use parts made everywhere. It's all about the money, which makes the world go round. Foreign manufactures design their cars to last.

No it is never a good thing to have to take a new vehicle back into the shop for any kind of service (other than regular oils changes) and I can understand why someone would be upset.

Since it happened right out of the gate it seems that the final testing and inspection ought to be a little tighter.

Still, without seeing all the data on just what percentage end up back at the dealer any complaining about ALL of them just isn't fair. There are probably a larger portion out there without any issues. I've had just the opposite experience. Most of my domestic cars have been trouble free and the only issues that cam up were minor ones. A friend at work has a Honda Ridgeline and that particular vehicle is a POS. It has been in the shop 4 times for problems. They are not without their faults too.

Unfortunately issues could come up with ANY brand vehicle you buy.

It seems that all the manufacturers are making a good product these days and a lot of it will come down to the service you get from the dealer and the way they handle any issues that may come up.

Can't say I'm a fan of NAFTA or pleased that the HHR was assembled in Mexico. That's just the way it is at the moment. I guess I was lucky in that my HHR does seem to be solid and well built and I am very happy with it.

I think that some of the people on the list who have had issues are willing to work through them since this is such a unique little ride and once the kinks are worked out it is worth it.

That is the largest load of CRAP I have ever heard . . .

You mean to tell me ALL cars aren't made from parts from ALL over the world? Give me a break, come out of you bubble and enjoy reality . . .

All cars are built as disposable . . . America wants their stuff cheap and disposable, why do you think small appliances are not made here? Clothes? Electronics?

If our govenment would treat American Manufacturers with the same incentives as the Foreign Manufactures things would be way different here . . .

Foreign car are made to last? . . BS . . . Toyota had the worlds WORST recall record on their cars and trucks. . . Quality? I think not. My business partner has a 2007 Camry and that is a POS, it has been in the shop more times than I care to count, and parts have literally fallen off the car . . . . quality . . Tundra's cam shafts break! The tail gate will fold in half if you put a load on it . . . Built to last? HA HA!

And BTW my:

2008 HHR SS, with 3,XXX miles on it has been flawless . .
2006 STS V, with 16,XXX miles has never been to the shop . . .
2006 GTO, with 17,XXX miles never went to the shop
2004 Silverado HD with 70,XXX miles has been in 2 times
2002 Camaro SS in the shop 2 times . . .
2000 Camaro SS never in the shop . . .

You sir ARE the epitome of why American companys are in trouble . . . a small indiscrete problem arises and you want what ever it is replaced . . . . Oh boo hoo, a sensor went bad . . . boo hoo, the window motor stopped working . . .WHO BUILT THE DAMDED PARTS??? Most likely China . . .

8700 so far and only been in once. We had the tire pressure sensor freak. I spent 30 min in the delar waiting room and was on my way home. I came out of an 07 Silverado Crew Cab into this when my wife and I found out we were having our fist child. I have not one regret.

Xsta Z, calm down.... A lot of us agree with you, just don't come down to that level.

I replaced my VW Passat with my HHR and have never looked back. That vehicle left me stranded up in Canada with a broken timing belt and bent valves since the "better engineering" from VW doesn't include clearance for the valves. Only cost me 4 grand to retrieve from Canada and get running again....... So your point about American made VS foreign is well taken by at least me.

ANY car can have a few bugs, and taking delivery of a brand new one should be a joyous event instead of a headache. Too bad LoColorado had the problems, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But he does need to give the service dept a chance.

I have hit the 15,000 mile mark in my '08 SS, and I drive the crap out of it! it has only been off the road long enough to change the oil and get a bath! my car may or may not break down but as of today with 15,322 there has been no problems, but that said it's still a crap shoot..... unlike playing russian roullette with an automatic who knows maybe your car was built on a friday after lunch
