After reading the issues here with brakes, I think when mine wear out I will be researching and installing aftermarket rotors and pads. God Bless, Marc

Rotors are not an issue. Using a better pad is.

I will be going witht the EBC reds when my time comes if not sooner. I hate the stock brake dust.

As for rotors they are all made pretty much to spec if you do not go really cheap. Holes and Dimples have no effect on performance in a positve way and may only hurt performance with noise and less heat sink factor.

Now if you want them for look that is ok as they are only for that reason.

Also 98% of rotors are not warped. It is pad material that has embeded into the rotor under hot clamping conditions. Think of it like spilling a Coke on the kitchen floor and then trying to slide in your socks accross that floor. You will slide smooth untill you hit the spot where the Coke was and it will grab.

Hawk or EBC make two of the best pads out and it is no BS like many other pads. They cost more but in this case you get what you pay for.

Good move and recommendation. Those factory lug nuts were the cheapest crap I have seen yet in that dept! The hex heads on mine were rounding off after just 2 tire rotations... I replaced mine and have had no issues since.

Is GM putting on brake pads of less quality now? My wife has a 2000 Olds Bravada and we just replaced the front pads for the 1st time at 92k miles. Our driving habits are more geared for combined rural/suburban and hwy. I would hope to get at least 50k out of the pads on my SS.

THe variations of wear come down to.

Driving habits.

Type of vehicle.

Pad Quality.

The engineering of the brakes system.

The terrain where you live.

And other factors.

Most average people get around 30K miles out of the front pads and rears can vary depending on the vehicle and weight distribution.

For example the 04 and later GP had a Bosch brake balancing system. All my pads wore even right to 63K mile. My wife drives it the most and is hard on brakes. The car adjust brake bias depending on the weight and distribution in the car. THe bias is electronically adjustable. Some GP owners are regularly seeing 75K miles.

On the other hand my old GMC would get about 30K miles on the front pads and the rear shoes went 100K with no issues and still had plenty of material when I sold it.

You can give three people the same vehicle and get 3 different results.

I think the design for the brake systems is very different here... on the SS, they put in high-performance brakes; but they are not designed for long life. I had a 99 blazer that also had the nice ceramic pads on the front and they lasted a long long time, but they were not designed for performance like the SS brakes.

just curious do any of you have the Upgrade Brembo Brake package? Does it consist of more than calipers? are the rotors and pads different?
