Drive the car like you would everyday. The only thing I would avoid is long periods at the same high rpm range.

I have driven mine hard since day 1

I will change the oil for the first time around 2000 miles

I am still a fan of some break in...500 miles at least.

And that initial oil change before you romp it is a must to remove metal particulates sheared from bearing surfaces during break in.

I'll do another change at 1000 miles to also remove metal. Then on to the standard schedule!

A lot of talk about oil changes in this thread so I will just ask here. Is it standard oil in the HHR SS. I am just bit over 2000 miles and it still says I have 70% of my oil life left. The dealer and my mechanic said to just wait until it is closer to 0% before I change the oil.

If it is using conventional oil is recommended I change to synthetic?

I think it takes synthetic.

I would change it the first time with 1000-2000 miles (like Eco Boost suggested it ensures you get rid of metal shavings) After that I usually change synthetic every 5000 miles. The cars computer will allow you to go longer as they base it on rpm,speed,etc...

I believe synthetic is good for 7K plus miles

I will prob run mobil 1 10w30

I want to do things right with this car, as I expect to have it for many years and many miles.

According to page 2-21 of the owners manual, there is no special procedure required for break in.

According to the owners manual, the 2.0L LNF requires an oil that meets GM spec GM4718M. Just like the Corvette, these come with Mobil 1 5w-30 from the factory. I would recommend the continued use of synthetic oil with OCI's based on quality oil analysis. This is what the owners manual states:

The engine requires a special engine oil meeting GM Standard GM4718M. Oils meeting this standard can be identified with the American Petroleum Institute (API) Certified for Gasoline Engines starburst symbol. However, not all synthetic API oils with the starburst symbol will meet this GM standard. Look for and use only an oil that meets GM Standard GM4718M. For the proper viscosity, see Engine Oil on page 5-15.

I guess I could of read the manual but that would have been the easy way . I was asking because I was going to change to synthetic if it was not already
