couple of maybe silly questions

Today while poking around in the L/H wheelwell, I noticed a vent with a flapper valve ,up in the top rear of the strut. Same thing on the R/H wheelwell. Any ideas what they are for? Some sort of drain maybe?
Also where is the air picked up, at the source for the air cleaner, from the wheelwell. Can't figure out where in the wheelwell the air is picked up.
P.S. Just for drill, I removed the crossed flags on my 96 Impala [since it's for sale], and installed them over the SS on the doors. Looks pretty good.
will take pics. after next wash job.

When closing the doors or hatch those flaps release the interior air pressure. Without them the doors would take considerable force to close completely. EVERY car has them.
