HHR SS Topics and information on the 2008-2010 Chevy HHR SS Turbocharged models.

I wonder what is wrong with this SS or is it mispriced?

I guess some guy's are just lucky. My last car a BMW 740 sport, had 6,000.00 worth of stupid stuff to fix, and it was a 69,421.00 car, two water pumps, 1 radiator, a watercooled alternator, belt tensionoers , all 4 lower a arms with the ball joints, (the smart Germans made them out of aluminum to be light) duh Ralph !!! The Valley pan, that ain't easy to get to, the list goes on, and on. It is a fun car to drive, but has been a pain to maintain. My HHR's on the other hand, have run fine couple minor things to fix but, I love both flavors SS & 2LT .........Maybe you should trade the SS in on one of those Canadian cars, see how it does.

There is bound to be good ones and not so good ones in any batch.

I think the Japanese or Germans are getting my money as soon as I can ditch the SS.

Car has started to stumble again after cold starts as of yesterday so it is going back in.

Other issues are noisy suspension when the temp gets below freezing, the car has more squeaks rattles and vibrations in the interior than a 15yr old car. Overall cheap materials used in the interior. The shifter has gotten progressively worse as far as engagement over the past 3 yrs. Sometimes have to fight to get it into first or reverse. Again more so in the cold weather.

As far as market value and trade's. I have been fortunate enough to own 4 new cars in the past decade. None have had any major issues aside from recall's and reg maintenance and all of which I have gotten fair market or better value for when trading them in. 2 were domestics and the 3rd was Japanese. I take very good care of my cars and they are in at least showroom or better condition at all times.

Like I said first and last GM product I buy.

It is the urethane bushings on the car. They get stiff in cold weather and can make noise. Mine will do it for a say or so and it goes away. The more humid it is the more it can happen.

This is common on high end performance bushings even the aftermarket ones. Not really a big deal. They have lube you can put on but it will come back in most cases. They really help in handling but the noise is a trade off.

You can run but you can have issues no matter where you go. We make a lot of money off import people too who think they are doing the right things.

I am aware of this and appreciate your feedback. I had the same issue to a much lesser extent on my Mazadaspeed 3. Again this only happens below freezing until the bushings have warmed up after a few kms of driving.

True, any car company wether it be GM or Porsche will have potential issues. I honestly usually do a ton of research on cars before I purchase them. The SS was kind of an impulse buy. I liked the style, I had read great things about the LNF and prefer the utility of hatches over sedans or coupe's. I did not do much research aside from the LNF which is kind of ironic that it has come back to bite me lol.

Its more of an overall build quality issue that has left such a sour taste in my mouth. Even my 04' SRT-4 had a better build quality IMO. When I buy a brand new car I don't expect the issues I have come across with the SS after a mere 3 yrs and 45000 kms of ownership.

The reality is any GM car designed pre Chapter 11 has short comings and was no seceret. Generally most were not fatal flaws but some were.

Sorry you had issues with the LNF but the vast majority of us have not. With the number of engines built thing happen and you just had bad luck as most have had great service.

I will be the first to point out the HHR is not perfect but I will also stand up and say it is no where near as bad as some want to make it. I am in enough different cars to see and know the issues. Myself and friend in the industry know what is out there and generally the newer the car or platform the better it is and that applies to every make.
