Manual Transmission Parts Availability
Hi All,
New to the forum. Thought I'd share some info that may not be common knowledge as some parts from GM are getting scarce. I wanted to replace my H-Pattern shifter emblem on top of the shifter, but obviously, it's not available from GM anymore. There isn't anything listed aftermarket either - at least not for an HHR SS. Since the transaxle is a SAAB transaxle, I had the thought that maybe GM just sourced the rest of the shifting components from SAAB also. It appears they did. I found a eBayer in the UK selling aftermarket shift knobs for a SAAB 9-3, and it's a spitting image of ours in our SS. I inquired if he shipped to the US, and he does not, but I'm going to keep looking around. There are a ton of sellers in China selling an aftermarket knob, but I'll only use them as a last resort. It will also give me another option when searching through local salvage yards.
Here is a link to the eBay UK auction.
This also holds true for the entire shifter mechanism. My reverse lockout mechanism was broken, so I found a guy to order one of those from for a SAAB 9-3, and it's on the way. It's not blue like mine, but appears to be the same piece.
Anyway, just FYI. I don't like sponging data and info from a useful site, unless I can give something back.
Sincerely,
Robert
