Normally I would semi-agree. However I think a V6 that puts out the same HP as a V8 "muscle car" (Mustang) is worthy of the title. I don't think the V6 Camaro will be anything to laugh at.

If I Had To Choose Between Base Model Camaro & A Nissan 350z , I Would Take The Nissan !! Lower Weight, Bigger Gas Tank, Better Gas Mileage & Sexy, Almost Porsche-like Styling !!
Not To Mention, They Hold Their Resale Values Quite High !!

Per Scott Settlmire of GM the Camaro Job 1 just rolled on the line yesterday. I did not speak to him directly but that is what he told a friend of mine that has been involved with the new Camaro program.
They will be building cars while most GM plants will be closed over then next month.

I used to think that... and I own a 98 Z28. but it's a different time now. In fact, if you think a V6 Camaro is a poser, what would you call a Camaro powered by the very same engine that's in the HHR SS?
In the wake of the recent gas spike, fuel economy will be an all too-important factor for a car's inclusion in a mfr's line. It must get better fuel economy and GM would like to sell Camaros overseas, which upcharges larger enginge displacements. You get the idea. Don't be surprised if there is a 2.0L Turbo Ecotech maybe in the 2011 or more probably 2012 Camaro lineup. Of course it will be Emiril-ized, kicked up a notch and have at least 300 HP, which the Ecotech can easily handle or more...
That's if even if there still IS a GM and a Chevrolet brand in the world in 2011. Who knows but one would like to think Chevy would survive if GM declares a chapter 11.

Not really. The HHR SS is what it's supposed to be and for the price you can't beat it for a family vehicle with all the perks of it. The Camaro is supposed to be a Muscle Car and the V8 version holds much more value that any V6 model. Apples and Oranges. I believe that if you want a car, you won't be totally happy unless you get the best version.

I believe, if you check total production for all the years, more Camaros were grocery getters than "muscle cars". Not all previous Camaro's were Z-28's, RS's, IROC's, etc.
I think you're mistaking the IMAGE of the car to it's reality. Which, again speaks to the HHR.
By the way...according to GM.....84% of the PRE-ORDERED new Camaro's are V-8. Which was highly unexpected by the marketing people.

Just goes to show you how out to lunch these marketing types are. It's the true-believer, real auto enthusiast types who are by far the ones pre-ordering a brand new vehicle of this type and these are precisely the folks who will select the biggest performance options. Throw in the nostalgia factor for us aging boomers and it becomes a real big "Duh!" as to why max performance is the big seller so far. Expect that trend to moderate greatly once the early adoptors take delivery of their cars and the more casual buyers start accounting for (or not!) the majority of sales.
