I'm currently running with the Cooper Zeon RS3-A in the stock size. I like them better than the OEM Michelins, and better than the Continental Extreme Contact DWS, which up until now were my favorite choice. They performed well during this past record setting winter in SE Michigan. They handle very well in most conditions. Unless you are needing something uber-sticky for the track, they are a great choice and a good price.

I am still floundering around on which tires. crazy I usually don't have this issue.

so I am stuck between GMax, Conti dws and cooper zeon althought the pilot A/s and Eagle F1 are rated well.

Boydie - I am across the state from you South of Traverse

I have owned 4 of your 5 choices......The Michilen as3 impressed me so much I bought another set for my other HHR's ...might suggest the 235x45 if you are running 18" wheels.

P.S. Consumer reports just agreed with me after testing 40 all season tires.

When we bought our 2006 HHR the dealer slapped a new set of Primewell's on it. They were 255/55/16. We put just a tad over 50,000 miles on them with no problems at all. They dug through the snow much better than I thought they would.

When they finally started going flat for no particular reason {except that alloy wheels tend to get crappy in the bead area and leak a lot} I bought a new set of the same thing but went with a little narrower tread. I have 205's on them now.

I can actually get my finger between the strut perch and the edge of the tire now. The wider tire cleared OK but would rub a bit when I was in full turn of the stirring wheel. These narrower ones do not. The ride is the same.

Yes, they are a very good fit. I have done it 3 times and the smallest wheels were stock SS wheels 7.5 wide 18". All three were Michelin as.

Decision

ok tires are ordered thank you for the input. I ended up ordering hankook Ventus S1 noble2 They seemed to raise to the top relative to tire rack, consumers and your reviews. also the best price for the rating over the 3 sources. I will keep you posted. thanks

I know this reply is a bit late, but the Cooper Zeon RS3-A have been simply awesome. Have close to 10K on them and they have been doing really well. Also, they performed well in the winter. The Coopers are nice and sticky and handle well in all conditions. In my opinion they are an upgrade from the OEM Michelins. If anyone is looking into new tires the Coopers are worth checking out and they are very reasonable. The RS3-A are definitely worth a look and they are reasonably priced!
