The SS is a performance car with a tuned suspension and substantial horsepower. The steering ratio is very quick and even the steering wheel is smaller than the LS/LT models. It's biggest detriment is that it is a front wheel drive vehicle but it is what it is. I lock in Traction Control when I'm in a performance mood and I find that while still a bit tricky it is more predictable and easier to control. Just don't try to get it "loose"!

Is anybody bothered by this? I just ran into a friend at the first car show of the year, and he just traded in his 07 HHR for an 08 SS HHR. With less than 1000 miles on it, he is ready to sell it. He said that the car has such severe torque steer that he hates driving it. On the highway, he said it was relaxing to drive his naturally aspirated HHR, but with the SS he has to hold onto the steering wheel with both hands, because when he steps on the gas, he never knows when the turbo will kick in and the steering wheel will be yanked from his hands.
Two questions-anybody else have this problem? and-do you think he will have a hard time selling it? It is Sunburst Orange with an automatic tranny. He is looking to get $20,000 for it.

Thanks for the replys. Personally, I have been TRYING to get more torque steer on mine, because it means I have more power. I grew up with high horsepower RWD cars, but have driven enough FWD cars that I have gotten used to and even enjoy playing with the torque steer. (I sold Mazdas in the late 80's so I remember the turbo 626).
With the mods on mine, it can easily break the tires loose with 1/2 throttle and once or twice when starting from a light, I got a little surprise from the steering wheel. But then again, I am the nut that used to go to parking lots after a snow storm and practice skidding for hours and hours

I ahve a little, but it is expected from a higher power FWD car. My '69 Camaro has over 500 hp and tq, guess what, I know that too much gas in the first 2-3 gears will mean tire spin and the always loved side step. You correct for it. That is what driving an SS is all about. "SUPER SPORT".

I just have 326 miles on mine, and did notice today, under moderate acceleration, the "dreaded" torque steer. Will have to play with the "happy button" to better understand how it works in Launch Contol. Waiting a little longer to do WOT off the line...
