Now I have a 2008 and I have a couple of questions before I purchase the above items

1: Is the part number for the buttons for the raised ones?
2. What are the other color choices for the cover? Also what is the part number for the one above?

If anyone can help that would be great!

Too long ago for me to have the part numbers.

Maybe someone who has done it recently can help with the numbers.

Switch covers come in Silver or Charcoal.

I contacted www.parts.com, and the sales rep walked me through the ordering.

OPPS, EDITED 2 April 2009
In my original post below I made the mistake of putting the resistance between Ground and the 10VDC reference voltage. I should have put the resistance between the "logic" line and the 10VDC reference voltage.

The balance of this post is incorrect.

My Base Level 2009 HHR LS radio will not support the steering wheel radio controls.

All I wanted was the "mute" function for the OnStar cellular phone - so I decided to try putting a 3100 Ohm resistance between the two radio leads(reference voltage 10VDC and ground) to see if I could just add a button elsewhere on the dash. Well it didn’t work so I tried all the other resistance combinations for Volume up/down and station up/down - none of it worked. My conclusion is the new(different vendor) 2009 Base Level radio does not support this function.

This saved me the cost of buying the steering wheel controls. So 2009 owners beware!

this is interesting. the 2009 with the standard radio (on LT1) can be ordered with leather which gets you the radio controls that work with the standard radio. interestingly this also gets you the bluetooth option (which is located in the on-star unit). I am beginning to think that maybe there is a lock-out for this option combo (both of which I would really like to see on my 2009), or maybe a different on-star unit or a something else missing somewhere...

any other 2009 owners adding the radio controls or leather steering wheel please post your results. also, if anyone has schematics please feel free to post or pm (I don't have a shop manual yet).

Actually, I have an 09 LS with NO options. I purchased a used leather 08 cobalt steering wheel from Schram auto on ebay for about $65. I replaced my old steering wheel with the leather one and the MUTE button DOES work just fine. In fact, if you press and hold it, it will allow you to use the built in phone. It will not however, allow you to use any bluetooth functions. The bluetooth functionality either is locked out by software and/or hardware. So you can add the controls and they work with the base radio. Bluetooth will NOT work though. I hope this helps.....

Thanks boulos,

Your success made me go back and recheck the schematics and test method. Corrected in post #565 above.

Adding Radio Buttons to 2009 HHR

I ordered the parts quoted in the thread, and followed the instructions. The radio buttons worked great, but apparently the cruise control buttons are wired differently for 09. I looked at the connector and the wires, and they were the same, but the wires were in different locations!. I just cut off the connector from the old wiring harness, and wired it to the new one, connecting wires of the same color. A little heat shrink tubing and electrical tape and all works just fine. I guess Chevy is getting sneaky changing the wire positions in the connector for the different years

2009 Leather Steering Wheel upgrade & Bluetooth saga

the 2009 leather steering wheel arrived and I installed in the 2009 LS it this weekend, a few observations and updates:

msrp is lower for the 2009 part (paid under $150 shipped)

rented a puller from a local kragen (cskauto.com for your local store) for $6 (have one before you start, GM's is different)

airbag connector "keepers" (pull up) now attached to connectors (they don't fall off)

all buttons work as you would expect

press mute button for a few seconds to get to onstar. the word "bluetooth" is not recognized by the system, but after saying it 2 times it comes back with a menu of things that you can say and one of them is "bluetooth", so one small step closer?

Bookman; if you would have read about moving the wires you would have read how to remove the wires from the plug, very easy with a pin [hat pin, dress pin] ect.
