This is one of the most practical modifications I've seen on this site. I'm definitely going to order the parts to modifiy my wheel. I don't want or need another steering wheel. My garage is full of spare parts as it is.

Hi SteinywiHHR;
My 2006 HHR came with steering wheel radio control buttons. However, notice while listening to AM stations (good local one available) turning steering wheel causes signal drop-outs.
Does that happen on your installation ?

My parts are being shipped now and from what i am hearing is you cut the wire plug going from cruise to under the bracket than do you pull the plug out or leave it there? Would it be easier to take the 3 torx screws out and just remove the horn ring? Deb have looked alot at yur pics very good

Please just re-read the thread "from the beginning". It is way too long now, but you do not cut any wires, you MAY have to re-arrange wires in the connector.

Did not mean to sound snippy, but I do not remember ANY suggestions involving cutting wires, maybe one in there were somebody couldn't figure out how to unscrew the bracket, but they owned a set of wire cutters. I was just was trying to prevent bad things from happening to you like airbags exploding, wiping computers etc.

That part I found to be easy. Use a extra long hex key push into one of the holes until you feel give, pull that side up a bit, replay the other side. The holes are on the bottom side of the wheel about 4:00 & 8:00.
