Just finished installing rear seat and belts.Went fairly smooth thanks to instructions here, except upper and lower belt holes had to be tapped (12 x 1.75)

Hey Panel Man

That's exactly what I want to do to my new HHR. I haven't bought it yet, hopefully next week. I really appreciate you doing this. Do you have anymore pictures of the removal stage? Especially the installation of the seat belts.
I was going to buy a regular HHR because of the back seat but it really didn't do anything for me. I really like the panel but of course no back seat.

Thanks
Tom

Just a quick note to any that have done or want to do this mod. It could give you an issue with resale. There are laws about seats and windows. Its one of the reasons back in the "van craze" days that windows were added to panel vans when seats were installed in the rear.

Resale???, The chance of that happening are slim, I'm going to drive it til the wheels come off. Then it will be time for a V8 swap

Thanks. That's an interesting point. When I go for State Inspection in a few years, I'll have to remember to fold the seats down. I don't know what the laws are in Jersey, but just in case.

It's easily reversible. Just keep your panel parts!

I always prefer mods I can undo. Someone sold the storage boxes on here after putting the seat in. I think he sold them for $50 or $75, but that doesn't quite seem worth it unless he had no place to store them.

I can find NOTHING in the Maryland State Vehicle Inspection Manual that is remotely true to your statement..ALL doors need to work as designed, inside and out, and ONLY the drivers window needs to function as designed, seats and seat belts to be mounted per Federal Highway Adminstration requirements. Your "van craze" statement is an opinion that is more about the people sitting in the back being able to enjoy the view. I could go on and quote some sections from the book but that would really involve too much of my time. Yeah I kinda know what I'm talking about, I wrenched for a living and did "State Inspections" at a Goodyear Shop and a Dodge Dealer.
