Did I understand from your post #23 that you believe your radio is made by Panasonic? Might explain all the differences as my radio is labeled "Delphi".
The idea of exchanging buttons or faceplates between the different years is unlikely to be successful as the screw locations of the PCB and the connector(s) are located differently between the years.

The other thing to keep in mind is that these instructions are for modifying the base LS radio. Sno showed us the innards of a base LT radio with the multi-function display. I'm not going to take apart my stereo to see if it's the same as Sno's Delphi radio, but it may very well be the same setup with the light pipes.
Delphi is the result of GM spinning off the old Delco supply division. I thought all the new radios were made by Panasonic too.

Sounds like they rebid the contract for supplying the radios and Delphi came out as the cheaper bid for '09. They had to cut costs somewhere, so reducing the number of LEDs and switching buttons was probably cheaper in the long run.
Every auto manufacturer does this at some point. That's probably why GM stopped letting Delco/Delphi put their logo on the radios long ago.
A couple clarifications:
My radio is the low end single CD base unit for the 2009 LS, not the LT. It does have the MX receiver capability.
It is possible Panasonic may still be producing the up level radios. You know the ones with the CD changers and the remote amplifier.

I dont remember if it was on this thread or another but somebody said you could easily get the same effect of changing the LEDs by simply taking a sharpie pen(other than black) and color the lights? Is that possible or even recomended?
If you do decide to tackle this project, you'll see what I ean when your done. I would offer to do this, but I'm not an approved vendor with the site.
